About David Porteus
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in photography. My dad & both my older brothers had decent cameras, and I can remember being really excited when my twin brother & I got our first instamatic cameras when we were kids. In my teens I had a 35mm fixed-lens camera, kind of a hybrid between an instamatic & a REAL camera! I bought myself a Ricoh KR-10, 35mm camera for a college graduation present & soon after, my first telephoto lens. I can still tell you the very first shots I took with that lens! I’ve also always had a deep affinity with nature. I grew up in the south end of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and spent MANY happy hours wandering the woods & fields of the Niagara Escarpment & the 12-Mile-Creek valley....

A wonderful thought provoking moment. The image causes one to pause for reflection. Thanks for the background story and for entering it into "The Jewel In Your Portfolio" challenge!

The fog seems to just float on the water, and with your description I can almost smell coffee and a campfire. A picture that provoked my sense of smell is indeed more than just a picture. Good luck in the contest. Voting is open to the public.

Love the moodiness of this foggy image! L/F
David Porteus replied:
Thanks very much Denise, that's what I loved about the scene when I took this shot! Funny thing was, looking 90 degrees to the left, out over the lake, it was blazing sunshine & bright blue sky! It's all about perspective lol!

Must have been a great experience when taking that photograph. Good job David
David Porteus replied:
Thanks very much Kamil! Funny weather that weekend, warm & sunny during the day & frost overnight.
